For seven days in Zanzibar, combine a short Stone Town stay with one beach base and leave a flexible day for weather or rest. The route below is a suggested itinerary, not a fixed package: adjust it to your flight times, hotel location and the activities you actually want.
Days 1–2: arrive and explore Stone Town
Keep the arrival day simple. Meet your transfer, check in and eat locally if you feel rested. Avoid buying a timed boat excursion that depends on clearing immigration quickly. If you arrive late, move sightseeing to the next morning.
On the second day, take a Stone Town walking tour and leave space to explore at your own pace. Ask about access and opening arrangements for the places you want to enter. A guided walk can give context to the town’s architecture and trading history without trying to tick off every building.
Day 3: a spice visit on the way to the coast
Choose a spice-farm visit if it interests you, then continue to your beach accommodation. Agree whether the vehicle can safely hold your luggage and whether the stop makes sense for your chosen route. Do not add a long detour simply to avoid a free afternoon.
Days 4–5: beach time and one sea excursion
Use the first full beach day to understand the tide and explore the area around your hotel. On another day, consider a snorkelling or sailing excursion with the departure point, equipment, inclusions and weather policy agreed beforehand. Keep the order of these days flexible rather than attaching a boat trip to an inflexible promise of sunshine.
Travellers staying in the north can compare Mnemba-area options. Those in the southeast may prefer an outing that avoids a long road pickup. Ask the operator to explain the full day, not just the time spent on the water.
Day 6: choose Jozani or a genuine rest day
A Jozani Forest visit can suit travellers who want a land-based nature outing. Combine it with another stop only if the routing works and the day remains comfortable. If you have already had busy mornings, leave this day open. A holiday itinerary does not need an attraction in every slot.
Day 7: leave enough time for the airport
Confirm checkout, luggage storage and airport pickup with your hotel and driver. Plan from your airline’s check-in requirement backwards, allowing a realistic road buffer. Do not schedule a boat trip immediately before an international departure.
If you also want a mainland safari
Replace part of this route or extend the trip. A safari needs its own flights, accommodation and baggage plan. Ask for an itinerary that shows actual nights in each place; a seven-day holiday can otherwise become mostly travel.

FAQs
Is seven days enough for Zanzibar?
Seven days can work well for Stone Town and one beach base. Treat it as a focused visit rather than an attempt to cover every coast.
Can this itinerary work with children?
Yes, if you shorten outings, leave rest time and choose age-appropriate boat activities and transfers.
